The purpose of the Integrated Flood Observation and Warning System (IFLOWS) is to reduce the annual loss of life from flash floods, reduce property damage, and reduce disruption of commerce and human activities.

Sensors, totally 322 and measuring rainfall and temperature, are positioned throughout the state. The data is sent to the WVDHSEM and other government agencies responsible for public safety. The data is used to identify potential flood situations and to monitor flood incidents.

The state's IFLOWS is a cooperative venture with the National Weather Service. Six other states have a cooperative IFLOWS program with the National Weather Service.

Visit the U.S. Geological Survey Website for more real time water data.
